TT/XT 500 MUSTER '06

DAY 1

This year it was decided to run the Muster over two days but still on the first weekend in February. Saturday saw a 240 km ride around the Adelaide and Barossa hills. We started at 10.30am leaving from the Moculta oval with 17 riders taking part in a scenic leisurely cruise with stops at various land marks. The first being at the famous Herbig Tree where a family of 8 lived for about 6 years before their family home was built. From here we wondered towards Mt Pleasant where we had our lunch stop as pictured in issue No26 of VMX.

We then went through the Adelaide Hills working our way back to the Barossa Reservoir to the spot called “The Whispering Wall”. After this, we rode through some of the local towns weaving our way back to Moculta oval to finish the 240km ride at 5pm.

Above: A stop at the Mengler Hill look out over looking the Barossa Valley was a must.

DAY 2

Sunday saw a total of 57 bikes on the Moculta oval. The setup on the oval was a little different this this year being the 30th anniversary of the first 500 back in 1976. The decision was to arrange the bikes in their year groups with the TTs down one side and the XTs down the other starting from 1976.

There was even a row for the only HL on the day

It worked well for the people that came along to have a look , they were able to see what the differences were between the years. However from a photographic point of view, the effect wasn’t as good because there were some bikes missing from some of the pre allocated year groups.

We had two other rows as well. One being for sidecars and the other being for specials.

Above Left: The Best Presented Bike Photo award went to Kevin Schaedler of Whyalla with his TT500. This award is picked by the photographer, Tony of Barossa Photo Company.
Above Right: As you can see the special is a work in progress which should be finished by the time this page was uploaded. You can also see Shane Kraft's 2005 Finke bike in the background.
This year with help from sponsors and donations from local wineries again, more awards were given.
  • The trophy for the best TT on the day went to Ian Elsworthy for his 1979 TT500F.
  • The trophy for the Best XT on the day went to Gary Hage for his 1980 XT500G.
  • The most original unrestored TT award went to John Gersch for his TT500D.
  • The most original unrestored XT award went to Randy Klem for his XT500.
  • The 'Bitsa' award went to a chap from Swan Reach, R Jones which was predominately an XT/TT '76-81 it had a XT motor fitted. For his effort, he received a 5L container of oil and a bottle of red.
  • The Best 30th Anniversary TT was won by Ian Deval.
There were prizes for the person who travelled the furthest to be at this years muster. This was won by Ian Devale from Canberra and Peter Taylor from Philip Island. Both receiving a couple of bottles of the Barossa's finest wines.
Neil Collard with his very well presented '79 HL was also given a couple of the Barossa's finest reds.

We would like to thank YAMAHA PITMANS for being the major sponsor again and our other sponsors BAROSSA PHOTO COMPANY, CRAKERS/CASTROL and STRENGTH MOTORCYCLES
